Patio Furniture- Protecting Your Patio From Theft

Published Categorized as Home Improvement

If you are smart, you will invest your money in quality patio furniture for your backyard, rather than waste it on flimsy backyard furniture that won’t make it through more than a couple of summers. Of course, the expense can be considerable. Patio furniture is something you may need to save for over a period of several months. That’s why it makes sense to implement safeguards against theft once you bring yours home.
As the economy has struggled in recent years, the incidence of patio furniture and patio accessory theft has increased markedly. Thieves can sell your patio furniture as it is. Or, if it’s made with metal parts, they may bring it to a scrap metal yard for cash. Scrap metal has also increased in value quite a bit in recent years, making it irresistible to thieves with drug habits.
If you live in a rural area, or a neighborhood with virtually no crime risk, you can probably rest easy. But if you’re a resident of a city or a large town in which theft is more plausible, there are steps you can take to protect your patio furniture.
One easy solution is to simply treat your patio furniture as you would your bicycle. Attach a chain to the base of your patio table and the legs of your patio chairs and lock them to a deck rail or some other structure at night. It will take you a few minutes to unfasten them when you’re ready to host on the patio, but what’s a few minutes in exchange for peace of mind? You may want to do the same for your grill, especially if it is small enough that someone could actually lift it off your deck without too much trouble.
Another relatively simple way to keep robbers out of your backyard is to install a motion-sensing light that will turn on when someone approaches your deck. Who wants to steal deck furniture under the bright glare of fluorescent lighting? The moment the lights turn on, a thief will most likely arrange change plans and quickly exit your yard.
